Spending a day on a motorboat is one of the best ways to explore the Greek coast. But just like with any outdoor adventure, knowing a few motorboat safety tips can make all the difference. Safety on a motorboat isn’t about taking the fun out of it—it’s about making sure your trip goes smoothly, so you can relax and enjoy the ride.
Whether you're a beginner or just need a quick refresher, here’s everything you need to know about how to stay safe on a boat.

🛟 1. Wear Your Life Jacket—or Keep It Close
It may sound obvious, but life jackets are your number one safety item on a boat. Even experienced swimmers can run into trouble, especially if surprised by a wave or strong wind.
👉 Tip: All our Poseidon Blue Water 170 boats come fully equipped with life jackets for adults and children, so you're covered from the moment you step on board.
📡 2. Listen to the Safety Briefing Before You Go
Before every rental, we give a clear and simple introduction to your boat, the controls, emergency gear, and best practices. Please don’t skip it—even if you’ve driven boats before. The safety briefing is quick, friendly, and gives you full confidence for your trip.
🌞 3. Sun Safety = Sea Safety
People often forget how strong the sun is out on the water. It reflects off the sea and can cause burns or dehydration faster than on land.
👉 Bring sunscreen, wear a hat, and stay hydrated. Use the sun canopy on our boats to take breaks in the shade.
🌡 4. Ease Into the Water — Don’t Jump In!
After lounging in the sun, it might be tempting to dive straight into the cool blue sea—but sudden temperature changes can shock your body and even cause cramps or dizziness. Always enter the water slowly, give your body a moment to adjust to the temperature, and make sure you're in a safe area before swimming. It’s not just safer—it’s more relaxing too!
⚓ 4. Anchor the Right Way
Want to stop for a swim or enjoy lunch in a quiet bay? Anchoring correctly is key to staying safe and keeping your boat in place. Drop anchor only in safe depths (we’ll show you how), and double-check it’s secure before jumping in.
🌊 5. Know Where You Can Go with a 30 hp Boat
A 30 hp motorboat like the Poseidon 170 is perfect for coastal exploration—but not meant for long-distance island trips. Stay within the recommended zones.
👉 Our map includes ideal spots that are beautiful, safe, and easy to reach.
🚦 6. Keep a Safe Distance from Swimmers & Other Boats
Give others space—it’s safer and more respectful. Always slow down near beaches, other boats, or rocky areas, and keep an eye on your surroundings at all times.
📱 7. Keep a Charged Phone Onboard (and Dry!)
In case of any problem, your mobile phone is your lifeline. Bring it in a waterproof pouch and make sure it's charged. We’ll give you our contact info and instructions in case you need to call us or the coast guard.
📋 8. Double-Check the Weather Before your Trip
We won’t let you go out in bad conditions, but it’s smart to keep an eye on the sky during your trip. If the wind picks up or the sea changes suddenly, head back to shore.
Why Safety Means More Fun
Staying safe on a boat means more time enjoying the sea, more peace of mind, and more good memories. Our Poseidon Blue Water 170 boats are built for comfort and reliability—plus, they’re easy to handle even for first-timers.
