You've booked a licence-free boat for the day. Now the fun question: where do you actually go?
The southern Athens Riviera around Anavyssos is made for this — a coastline of clear coves, swim spots, and an ancient temple, much of it far easier to reach by boat than by road. Here are seven stops worth building your day around. You won't fit them all into one trip, so treat this as a menu, not a checklist.
(All of these are reachable on a calm day in our 30hp licence-free boats. We'll always brief you on the day's conditions and a sensible route before you leave.)
1. The Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion
The headline act. Seeing the 2,500-year-old temple rise on its cliff from the water is something the tour buses can't give you. Anavyssos is one of the closest launch points to Sounion by sea, which makes this iconic stop realistic on a self-drive day. (For the full trip, see our dedicated guide to a boat trip to the Temple of Poseidon.)
2. Patroklos Island (Gaidouronisi)
The uninhabited islet just off Cape Sounion. Its sheltered side offers calm, clear water for a swim away from any crowd — a perfect turnaround point with the temple as your backdrop.
3. Hidden coves between Anavyssos and Sounion
The real magic of having your own boat. This stretch of coast is dotted with small bays and coves you simply can't drive to. Nose in slowly, drop anchor, and you'll often have a patch of turquoise water entirely to yourself.
4. Anavyssos Bay and its beaches
You don't have to go far to find good water. The bay right by our launch point has lovely shallow, swimmable stretches — ideal for an easy first swim while everyone gets comfortable on board.
5. Saronida
A short hop along the coast, this relaxed seaside spot is a pleasant cruising destination with calm water and a friendly, low-key feel — a nice midpoint to aim for if you're not heading all the way to Sounion.
6. A snorkelling stop
Our boats come with snorkelling gear, and the clarity of the Saronic Gulf rewards it. Anchor over a rocky stretch, slip in with a mask, and explore — the water here is some of the cleanest you'll find this close to Athens.
7. A long, lazy lunch at anchor
The most underrated "stop" of all. Pack a cooler (we provide an ice box), find a sheltered bay, and just drift. With a Bluetooth sound system, a sunroof for shade, and a freshwater shower on board, our boats are built for exactly this kind of slow, perfect afternoon.
How to plan the day
Pick 2–3 stops, not 7. A relaxed day beats a rushed one, and you'll want time to swim.
Go early if Cape Sounion is on your list.
Fuel is charged separately, so a longer route uses a little more.
No licence, no experience needed — just a driver aged 18+ and the short briefing we give before departure.
If the forecast looks rough, we reschedule for free — your day should be calm and easy.
Your coastline awaits
Every one of these stops is within reach of a boat you drive yourself, launched from a quiet spot with free parking at the dock, just south of Athens. No licence, no marina chaos — just the Athens Riviera, on your own schedule.
