The simple rule: 30 horsepower
In Greece, you can legally rent and drive a boat without any licence as long as the engine is 30hp or less. Once a boat has more power than that, Greek law requires a recognised boat licence — and if you don't hold one, the boat must be operated by a professional skipper.
That 30hp limit is the line that matters. It's enough power to comfortably cruise the coast, reach nearby beaches and coves, and spend a full, easy day at sea — but gentle enough that a complete beginner can handle the boat safely after a short briefing.
